Random Photo Memory: Mozambique Lobster

Among my most all-time memorable travel adventures was in 2004 when… at the tender age of near six-Oh(!) I donned a backpack and set out on my lifetime dream trip:  6 full weeks backpacking solo across South Africa.  Truly a dream-come-true – and I have (my first ever) tattoo to prove it!

After more than a month of skipping down the looong South African coast (with a quick dip into the tiny countries of Lesotho and Swaziland), I found myself in Cape Town (among the most beautiful cities on earth) with about 11 days til my return air ticket kicked in.  What with no less than 40+ (!!!) countries tucked into the vast continent of Africa still left to explore, I wanted to take a peek at one more before I headed home.

I initially considered Namibia, but in the end opted to fly from Cape Town to Maputo, the capital of Mozambique – a land strung out languidly along the Indian Ocean, that might well have invented the travel cliche of “sugar-white” beaches.  Hopping on a decidedly rickety bus headed north to the Bazaruto Archipelago, I happily spent my waning days in Africa…
