Onism: The Awareness of How Little of the World You’ll Experience

Like you, I find a lot of kewl things whilst surfing our beloved www (I also find a lot of crap, but best we not go there, yes?)  But seldom do I unearth something that truly makes me pause, slack-jawed and go W.O.W.

Suffice this Youtube video did just that.

In some ways a bit disturbing/depressing – that we’re destined to miss oh so very much of what this Big Blue Dot has to offer.  That – even trying our derndest (and I’ve surely spent a lifetime doing just that) – we’ll still only ever lay eyes on but a tiny fraction of it all.

Still.  This video spoke to me personally.  And I hope it likewise whispers a firm reminder to you too:  Whatever your dreams, whatever far-away place once caught your eye, sparked your imagination.

GO THERE.   NOW.

After all (as I keep harping here) – this isn’t a youknowwhat:

“This ain’t no dress rehearsal!”

He makes compelling poetry in word and image. I visit his site when I need a shot of wordsmith. That said, I prefer to look at the doors I opened and will open, risks I took and will take, instead of the countless ones I didn’t, couldn’t, can’t or won’t. I’m faintly amused that critics are unable to find an accurate word to describe the viewpoint he uses to define unnamed emotions. Some say Existential Nihilism. I prefer Self Induced Melancholy because realizing that is one of the best kick in the butt to get started motivators.

Fabulous! I’m feeling absolutely inspired, Dyanne. Makes the impulsive side of me want to pack a bag and go … It may be an omen because I started out my morning looking at Syscanner and then TravelZoo. January is kind of shot for travel outside of Portugal because we’re renewing our visas (although I’m thinking some fun day or road trips might be a good answer to that conundrum) but after that … As Carly Simon used to sing, “Anticipation…!”

Fantastic share. Thanks.
